This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has spent several years trying to protect Bob from falling. For some unknown reason though, it appears it is Sheri having difficulty staying upright. Yesterday a dear wonderful friend came over to help Sheri and they decided to go out into the garden and enjoy the beautiful day, which Sheri was very excited to do since she has been in the house since her surgery on Friday. They headed toward the garden and Sheri was doing exactly as told and using the walker with her knee up on it. Things were going well. Then out of no where something jumped up out of the ground and grabbed the wheel of the walker causing it to come to an abrupt halt. Which would have been great except Sheri's body did not catch the halt command and for a fleeting moment Sheri was frozen in midair watching herself fall in slow motion. Luckily her crisis brain kicked in and she thought "what to do in a crisis STOP, DROP and ROLL, no wait that is for fire" and then her not so compliant self flew over the walker like a bullet catching her rib cage on the handle bars on the way down. All of a sudden she thought of her foot, keep it in the air, keep it in the air she thought. So there Sheri lay sprawled on the ground left leg in the air and laughing so hard she could not move. Her dear friend was horrified and it took the friend, the crutches and the walker to get Sheri up and to the swing. What a day but by the way ...Sheri is taking donations of ice packs , for her foot, very bruised ribs and oh yes her carpel tunnel. :)
