This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

There is a sharp contrast, from "the boys" a year ago, even since this past Christmas and now. Every once and a while Sheri can get him to sing a few words. This was the song he had a two line solo in , in the choir at the day center he attended for 5 years. A Pastor friend has been going with Sheri to pray over "the boys" and sing hymns with "them", my friend is holding Bob's hand keeping beat, "Al" is no longer capable.
Sheri's heart hurts.

  1. Dear Sheri...as someone who loves listening to music and singing even when I don't know all the words, it was so touching to see Bob remembering a few words and seeming to keep time. Perhaps he remembered all the very meaningful words especially to this beautiful hymn but the failing brain connections just wouldn't allow him to bring them forth. But I must think he heard them all and you and your minister brought him joy and comfort. I will spend the day humming And he Walks w/Me and He Talks w/Me (while awaiting our 4th Nor'easter this month!). You are an inspiration and I wish you the very best on your journey with Bob. Marie
